Going south?

Shouldice ALSTAR champ Kirk Hooker confirmed that the Country View / Hooker Bros. Racing team is once again heading to Florida in February to race at New Smyrna Speedway in the annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

Obviously, heading all that distance for a jam-packed nine nights of racing is an intense and expensive venture, requiring support from sponsors and other sources.

Kirk confirmed that his longtime friend, Eugene Hoekstra (seen in the picture with Hooker), has offered to buy three sets of tires for Kirk at NSS. Hooker actually got his start in racing at the age of 18 when Hoekstra - whose business is "Dig R Wright" - painted the #38 on his spare dirt Street Stocker and put Hooker in the car.

Another well-known Canadian racer, Trevor Monaghan, is planning to race at New Smyrna, too. Monaghan will compete in the Super Late Model division and is currently preparing his equipment for the outing. Anyone interested in supporting Monaghan can reach him via e-mail.

If any other racer or team would like to get some support or attention for southern ventures, please let me know so that we can get your sponsors some recognition.

Racing works if we support the businesses that support racing.
