F2000: Marcelli Podiums in Canada

Barrie, Ontario – (August 25th, 2008) The Pfaff supported race car driver of Kyle Marcelli once again put his Brian Graham Racing prepared F2000 on the podium, this time at Mosport International Raceway in support of the prestigious American LeMans Series.

As the U.S. F2000 Championship Series made their first stop north of the border, Marcelli’s hopes of taking another victory were on a high.

The weekend began with Marcelli suffering a severe under-steer in the car through Friday testing. With Saturday being a race day not many changes were made to the car. The last thing you want is to approach the race blind. Marcelli knew the car he had to deal with in the race and put his head down immediately. Quickly moving up position, Marcelli was the fastest car on track for the first six laps. Lap eight the car began to develop under-steer, by the halfway point he was struggling to just keep in on the track and began to go backwards ending the race 6th.

Sunday was the big day. The team worked very hard over night completely re-doing the cars set-up. Unfortunately this meant going into Sunday mornings qualifying blind folded, but it was necessary if they wanted any chance at a podium.

Learning the new set-up in qualifying, Marcelli quickly found himself battling for the pole position. Swapping the top three spots continually throughout the session the Barrie native qualified P3 just 0.193 of a second off pole.

Sunday’s race was entertaining from the Marcelli Motorsports hospitality tent inside turn eight. It was packed! As the race went green, the field spread out four wide across the front straight. On cold tires, the 18 year old race car driver began his chase for second. Chasing his teamate Conor Daly, son of Ex Formula 1 driver Derek Daly, Marcelli inched his way lap after lap. With about two laps to go Marcelli was right on him through the high speed turn eight. Unfortunately a little to close! Marcelli got the dirty air off the #2 car of Daly and lost his downforce almost sending him off track. The #1 Pfaff supported car of Marcelli made a brilliant save to cross line a respectable 3rd position.

“After Saturday’s frustration, I was happy to put the car on the podium for Sunday.  The guys worked very hard Saturday night to give me a better car and definitely went the right way.” Said Marcelli

“I want to say a special thanks to PFAFF for their support over the weekend, the event went really smooth and was overall successful putting the #1 PFAFF Van Diemen F2000 on the podium for Sunday. We turned a lot of heads with their support and to top it off the car looked the best in the paddock thanks the team at Pfaff & 3M Trimline/Meyevision.” Says Marcelli

“Kyle had a great outing and it was fantastic to see him reach the podium at his home track.  We are very happy for Kyle and his team’s accomplishments, and we’re pleased to share in his success.” Ryan Gibbons – Pfaff Automotive Partners
