FW: Steckly Has Fast Car But Finishes 18th in Coke Zero 200

Hamilton, On, Monday September 1, 2008:  The 22 Racing/Tow Truck in a Box/Erb Group Dodge Avenger team of Scott Steckly experienced the highs and lows typical of motorsports on Saturday night at Cayuga during the running of the Coke Zero 200. When practice wound up in the afternoon on Saturday, Steckly found himself third quickest out of the twenty-two cars entered.  Time Trials would have them post the quickest time until No. 4 Don Thomson Jr. took to the track late in the session. He beat their time by a few thousandths of a second to take away the pole and knock them to start on the outside of the front row.

On a re-start on lap 13, Steckly would nose into the lead at the line, but going into turn one he got pushed three wide with his No. 22 Tow Truck in a Box Dodge being the car moved up high on the outside.  When the dust settled Steckly had been spun into the infield but lucky for him none of the twenty cars coming behind hit him, but he was a long way back in the field.  Not to be deterred, Steckly starting marching his way back to the front and was back up to eighth when the oil pump belt came off the motor.  Coasting onto pit road and the time it took to make the repair would see Steckly lose ten laps to the field and not a single car dropped out for the remainder of the race so they were unable to advance their 18th place position.

“We had a good top five car again tonight,” stated Steckly in his usual upbeat way.  “We took a hit in the points we know with Ranger finishing second but we know its tough to go the whole season without some bad luck.  My team works very hard and I am sure they will give me another good car for Barrie and we will see what we can do their.”

Steckly’s commanding 113 point lead over 2nd place D.J. Kennington going into this event ten of the thirteen race schedule has unofficially dropped to 68 over now second place Andrew Ranger, the 2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion.

Finish 1. Mark Dilley  2.  Andrew Ranger  3. Derek Lynch  4. Jason Hathaway  5. Ron Beauchamp Jr.  18. Scott Steckly.
