News: Area Athletes Make College Choices -- Loudoun County's Dormio and Saleck Commit; SB's Prince to Play Softball at GMU; PFalls Kiefer to Hold Signing Ceremony; Former Stone Bridge/Flint Hill Hoops Standout Whitaker Verbals to UAB

(Oct. 26, 2010) - It has been a very busy week for area athletes in regard to finalizing their college plans five Loudoun athletes are in the news.

*At Loudoun County, Sammy Dormio announced she will play volleyball at Keene State and Raider baseball player Tyler Saleck has accpeted an appointment to the Air Force Academy.

Swim: Broad Run Senior Mark Sarman Verbally Commits to Georgia Tech



 Mark Sarman: Future Swimming "Yellow Jacket"Ashburn (Oct. 19, 2010) - Broad Run High School record-breaking senior Mark Sarman has verbally committed to swim next year for NCAA Division I Georgia Tech.

Sarman holds the school records in the 200 IM, 100 fly, 100 breaststroke as well as a member of three record-setting relays: 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free.

Softball: Broad Run's Maggie Betz to Play at NCAA Division I Hartford


Asbhurn (Oct. 19, 2010) - Broad Run High School senior Maggie Betz has made a verbal commitment to play softball at NCAA Division I the University of Hartford in Connecticut.

The Hawks play in the America East Conference.

Betz plays third base for the Spartans where she was named first team All Dulles District in 2010 as well as first team Region II and honorable mention AA all-state.

Softball: Stone Bridge Catcher Lewis to Play at NCAA Division I Wagner

(Oct. 15, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School senior catcher Beth Lewis has accepted a scholarship offer from NCAA Division I Wagner College and will be joining the Seahawks next fall.

Wagner, located on Staten Island in New York City, plays in the Northeastern Conference.

College Signing: Park View Honors 14 Patriots to Play in College

Boys Lacrosse: Loudoun County's Luke Driscoll Selected for Senior Showcase in Florida, Will Walk On Next Year at Hampden-Sydney

(June 2, 2010) - Loudoun County High School senior Luke Driscoll has been invited to participate in the 2010 US Lacrosse Senior Showcase game in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The 3-day event is held in July and features 96 of the nation's top senior lacrosse players.

Driscoll has also announced that he will walk-on next year for NCAA Division III Hampden-Sydney.

Ashburn (June 2, 2010) - There were lots of smiles and proud parents and coaches as Broad Run High School held its annual spring college signing celebration in the school's library Wednesday.

Girls Soccer: Bishop O'Connell's Moriarty to Play at Syracuse

(Feb. 25, 2010) - Bishop O'Connell High School senior and Ashburn resident Jackie Moriarty will play soccer next year for Syracuse according to the Potomac Soccer Wire.

Moriarty has played club soccer with the Bethesda (Md) Dragons since 2006 and before that was with the RFC Rangers. She also played with the Virginia State ODP program from 2006 to 2008.

(Feb. 25, 2010) - Two Broad Run High School seniors are taking their soccer game to the next level as Jennifer Taylor will play at Stony Brook next year and Brenna Smith will play at American.

Both Spartans have been part of the school's back-to-back VHSL AA state title runs.

(Feb. 25, 2010) - Loyola University head women's soccer coach Katherine Vettori announced on Feb. 16 seven student-athletes will join the Greyhounds in the fall and comprise the Class of 2014. Girls Soccer: Potomac Falls Senior Amanda Rumsey Signs to Play at Boston University

Sterling (Feb. 24, 2010) - Potomac Falls High School senior girls soccer player Amanda Rumsey has signed a NCAA Division I Letter of Intent to play with Boston University.

Softball: Potomac Falls Junior Pitcher Kiefer Makes Verbal Commitment to James Madison

(Feb. 14, 2010) - Potomac Falls High School junior pitcher Heather Kiefer has made a verbal commitment to play at NCAA Division I James Madison University starting in 2011-12.

The Dukes are the defending Colonial Athletic Association softball tournament champions coming off of their first ever NCAA appearance in 2009.
