2nd ANNUAL CANADIAN SPRINT CAR NATIONALS SET FOR SEPTEMBER 16th, 2006

Glenn and Tina Styres are pleased to announce that the second
annual “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” has been scheduled for their Ohsweken Speedway on Saturday, September 16, 2006.

A field of seventy 360 sprints from as far away as Des Moines, Iowa converged on the fast three-eights mile clay oval located on the Six Nations Reserve just outside Brantford, Ontario for the inaugural running this past September. When the checkered flag flew at the conclusion of the “A” Main it was veteran Kenny Jacobs of Holmesville, Ohio standing in victory lane having driven the Mike Woodring prepared JEI to the win.

“The September 17th event was much more than we expected” stated track owner Glenn Styres in making the announcement. “The support of the four regional sprint series from our area was impressive; and the huge crowd that turned out was unbelievable. It indicates to us that this is an event that both the racers and fans want. That has given us the incentive to grow the Nationals into an annual premier event at Ohsweken”.

The second annual “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” will retain a one day format and look very similar to the inaugural event. Time trials will once again set the starting line-ups for the heat races. There will however, be a couple subtle differences. First of all, the winner will collect $6,000, up from $5,000 in 2005 while second place will now pay $3,000. And secondly, two additional positions will be added to the starting field of the “A” Main which will now total 26. Each of the additional positions will pay $500.

Friday night September 15 will also feature a program of sprint cars with the second running of the “Ohsweken Shootout” headlining the program. Also on the card will be a series of sprint heats lined up by a random draw and a pair of 15 lap features with the two winners guaranteed starting positions in the Nationals “A” Main the following night.
