MIS NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES TICKETS ON SALE SATURDAY, JANUARY 14

BROOKLYN, Mich. – With the 2006 race season at Michigan International Speedway quickly approaching, it’s time for fans to mark this Saturday, January 14, on their calendars, as tickets and camping for both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events will be on sale to the general public.

After celebrating a successful 2005 campaign, which featured MIS’ 29th and 30th consecutive NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series sellouts, the 2006 schedule will again feature seven races over three weekends.

Tickets to both NEXTEL Cup Series races at MIS, the June 18 Michigan 400 and the August 20 GFS Marketplace 400, will go on sale at 8:00 AM EST on Saturday, January 14 at MIS’ official website, www.MISpeedway.com, or by calling the MIS ticket hotline at 1-800-354-1010. Tickets will also be available at www.MISpeedway.com 24 hours a day, seven days a week, starting January 14.

The tradition of crowning champions will continue in 2006 as the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series will make two trips to MIS for the 37th time in track history, with races scheduled for Sunday, June 18 and Sunday, August 20. Last year, Greg Biffle made it two-in-a-row at MIS by winning the June event and Jeremy Mayfield stretched his fuel tank to the limits and won the GFS Marketplace 400 in August. To cap off Sundays at MIS in 2006, the IRL IndyCar® Series will return for the fifth consecutive year after Michigan native Bryan Herta captured last year’s event, while Danica Patrick created plenty of excitement as she visited MIS for the first time.

On the heels of the success of last year’s first June NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at MIS, which featured Dennis Setzer capturing Chevrolet’s first Craftsman Truck Series win at the 2-mile oval, the series will return for another exciting Saturday shootout on June 17.

On August 19, the NASCAR Busch Series will make its annual stop to MIS after last year’s thrilling late lap duel between NEXTEL Cup Series stars Ryan Newman and Greg Biffle. Fridays will be as exciting as ever, featuring the one-two punch of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series qualifying and the ARCA RE/MAX Series on June 16 and August 18. Last year’s ARCA RE/MAX Series races featured now seven-time champion Frank Kimmel winning the June event and Steve Wallace carrying on the family tradition that father Rusty along with Uncle Kenny and Mike started by winning the August event just a day after his 18th birthday.

For the fifth consecutive year, children 12 and under will be admitted free to Friday and Saturday activities.

“We’ve been fortunate to have the fan support to sell out 30 consecutive NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events. If fans want to have the best opportunity to purchase the best seats for our 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup events, January 14 is the best time,” said MIS Director of Ticketing John Moreland. “With the popularity of last year’s facility renovations and schedule that again features plenty of racing, the 2006 season will be just as popular with the fans.”

Due to the success of the state of Michigan’s only NASCAR NEXTEL Cup events, demand is sure to be strong for the 2006 season. One of those fans waiting patiently for tickets to go on sale for the 2006 season at MIS is 2005 MIS “Fan of the Year” Oscar Ortiz, who has enjoyed racing at MIS for nearly 30 years.

“I want the 2006 season to be here right now,” said Ortiz. “It’s neat that MIS has single-day race event tickets, which really gives you the flexibility in which days you choose to attend. As we get closer to the start of the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season in February, I can’t wait for racing to come back to MIS. It truly is the best ticket in the state of Michigan.”

While tickets and camping go on sale for both NEXTEL Cup Series races on Saturday, January 14, seats to all other events, which include the IRL IndyCar Series, NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA/REMAX Series are now available. Tickets can be purchased at www.MISpeedway.com, or by calling the MIS ticket hotline at 1-800-354-1010.
