One consideration when you purchase a new laptop computer is which case will best suit your needs. Since there is such a wide selection, many of the ones that are carried in the more popular department and office supply stores will not adequately do the job that is necessary to keep your computer safe.
You choice typically comes down to a choice of a cloth computer case, one made of a plastic material, or an aluminum notebook case. There are good things about each choice, but with an aluminum case you can avoid many of the disadvantages of the other two.
The Exterior
When you get ready to leave with your computer you are putting it at the mercy of all the bumping and banging that it can get out in the world. Here aluminum notebook cases stand head and shoulders above cases made of other materials.
When you consider the case you are going to purchase you need to look at the durability of the material the case is made from, and the ability of the case to protect what is inside.
Plastic cases have a tendency to crack when they take a hard hit. After the plastic is damaged the edges around the crack can become sharp and cause damage to people or other objects it comes in contact with. It also loses its ability to keep the moisture away from your computer.
Cases made of cloth tend to tear, and they do not do a very good job of protecting your computer from getting banged around. They do a good job of protecting the laptop from getting scratched, but they will not protect it from damage if the case is dropped or hit hard.
The Inside of the Case
The interior of a laptop case needs to be able to adequately hold the computer in place, and to provide enough padding to keep it safe. Most cloth cases offer at most a thin layer of padding, and possibly a couple of velcro straps to secure the laptop.
The laptop cases with hard sides provides interior padding that is designed to keep the laptop securely in place. When the case takes a hit your computer will still be safely in its place. This is important because even though the exterior of the case is not damaged, if the computer is allowed to bang around inside the case it will become damaged. The components inside the computer are fragile, and they will become damaged if the computer is jarred too much.
Metal is Secure
The final area that needs to be considered is the security features that your laptop case offers. While many cases give you the ability to lock you computer up, only aluminum notebook cases will make it extremely difficult to get around the locks.
Cloth cases are often able to be locked, however this is just a small deterrent to a thief. It is too simple just to cut through the material and remove the computer from the bag. Plastic cases are more difficult to get through, but the plastic material can still be cracked to get to the computer.
Aluminum cases offer a material that is significantly harder to breach. This makes it a less attractive target to most thieves. Instead of having to try to get through a metal case, they are more likely to move on to an easier target, leaving your computer safely in its place.
When you shop around for a case for your new laptop computer, do not consider only the price of the case. Consider all of the advantages and disadvantages before you make your purchase. You will have peace of mind knowing that your laptop is more secure.

The Advantage of Small Metal Notebook Cases
One big problem newer laptop owners are facing is that their computers are smaller than many of the notebooks of the past. With the introduction of netbooks in recent years the size of computers has decreased significantly. Not many of the cases made today are designed for such small computers. Fortunately, some companies are introducing small laptop cases to accommodate these newer computers.
The larger cases may be tempting to try to use with the smaller computers, but it is a risk. Instead of using a too big case for your computer, stop to consider the risks you are taking.
Laptop computer cases are designed to give your computer the most protection possible. When you take your computer from the safety of your home you are putting it in a situation where it can be damaged in a multitude of ways. The case needs to fit the computer to protect it.
No matter how tough the outside of the case is, having a case that is too large is risky. While modern aluminum notebook cases will protect your computer form many of the bumps and bangs that the modern world can deliver, if the computer is swimming around in the case, it will move around too much inside the case.
The electronic components that make up a computer system are fairly fragile. When the computer gets jarred those components can become damaged; electronic circuit board can get cracked, the mechanisms within the hard drive can become damaged, and you could even damage your screen.
The computer case you choose should be designed according to the size of your specific computer. If you have one of the newer netbooks, you need a small laptop case that will hold your computer in place when you take it out into the world.
Padded interior cases will keep your computer snug and secure inside the case. The advantage of that is that even if you accidentally drop the laptop case, the computer inside will not be damaged. A snug fit is often all that is needed to prevent damage to the computer.
Because the older cases are so much larger than some of the new computers, the interior padding cannot adequately hold it in place. The impact the computer sustains inside the case can destroy it. Having a padded case that fits your computer is the best protection. In the unfortunate event that the case is dropped, the computer will be kept safe.
The fortunate news is, regardless of the size of laptop you are using you will be able to find a case that will fit it. Whether you are looking for small laptop cases, or the large carry-all computer cases, you will be able to find what you need if you are willing to spend the time looking for the right case. It is worth the time and effort that it takes to find a good fitting case for your computer.

Roller Aluminum Laptop Cases: Perfect for Business or Pleasure
With all the electronic gadgetry we have to carry with us today, old fashioned carrying cases are just so out of date. What the modern traveler needs is a roller aluminum laptop case. These cases have been designed for business or pleasure. They give you the best of a laptop briefcase and a travel bag, all "rolled" into one.
Before you get an image of an old fashioned roller case like your grandmother might carry, check out roller aluminum laptop cases. They look like something James Bond or Steve Jobs might carry with him. Even if you're just Joe Blow, if you have one of these at your side, you will look like an internet billionaire or a diplomat. If it's the superspy look you're after or you like sophisticated elegance, then go for the black case. If it's the internet guru or glamorous look you're after, choose silver and aluminum finishes.
Style is of little use without substance, though. Don't worry, roller aluminum laptop cases are designed for maximum functionality, no matter what you're using them for. You can only see the inside of the box if you have the right combinations, though. The double combination locks come with tamper-proof latches, so nobody who isn't supposed to be inside can get inside, no matter how hard they try.
There are three ways you can transport a roller aluminum laptop case. You can attach the rollers in an instant; you can choose to use the detachable, ergonomically designed handle; or you can attach the cushioned shoulder strap. The fact that you can detach or attach these as you like means that there will never be an annoying attachment when you don't need it.
Now it's time to check out the inside of your case. The first thing you will notice is the beautiful black nylon lining. It is padded, to protect the contents of the case. You will see that the inside of the lid is designed to securely carry a laptop up to 18 inches, so you're not going to have to buy a new laptop to fit inside.
The real genius of roller aluminum laptop cases is in the way the deep base is designed. Instead of having just one big area or having fixed compartments, it comes with customizable interior features. There are enough dividers that if you want to, you can set it up to be a full sized briefcase. If you prefer, you can remove the dividers and use it as a suitcase. Then again, you can make one section for business documents and another for clothes. In a matter of seconds, you can customized your case for your needs, whether it's for a business trip or a vacation.
You're not going to have any trouble convincing yourself to buy a roller aluminum laptop case, but you may have some trouble deciding on which one to buy. That's a decision you're going to have to make on your own. Don't worry, though. You can't make a mistake.

The Need For Laptop Cases
You may not want to believe this, but the fact is that your laptop case is as important as your laptop. This may not sound very profound but the value of a thing is measured by the care you give it .So if you know that a laptop is a something you should have and you know its worth, then you sure need a laptop case.
There is nothing wacko about having a laptop case without having a laptop, this is because a laptop case can be used to carry some other things, however owning a laptop without having a laptop case or bag is completely unthinkable. This would go to show that you really do not value your laptop because if you did, you would buy a good laptop case as soon as you buy a laptop, so that your laptop would be truly protected.
Those who have owned laptops but decided against a laptop bag have found out that they made a costly mistake. A lot of things can damage your laptop because it is made of very delicate materials. Your laptop can be damaged by rain, sunlight, being hit be objects and humidity can seriously damage your laptop. Therefore you need a good laptop case to safeguard your laptop.
Allow me to use myself as an example. I carry my laptop in my backpack type of laptop bag. This keeps my laptop safe, also holds some important tools needed for my job and keeps my hands free. My laptop bag has so many compartments in which I can keep a lot of my stuff and still keep my laptop safe. Believe me, I carry a lot of stuff in that laptop bag and as a result it is a little on the heavy side . However, because it is a backpack the weight is distributed between both shoulders making it very convenient and safe for me to carry my laptop and other stuff around.
My laptop bag is very well padded so that my laptop is very safe within the bag. Even if my laptop bag falls, i do not fear that any harm would come to my laptop because the padding in the bag would keep it safe.
If your laptop is important to you and you want to have it around for as long as possible, then you need to protect it and the way to do this is to get a good laptop bag or case.
Always consider the quality of the laptop bag or case you want to buy. Don't just walk into a mall and pick up any available bag you see. There are so many things you need to bear in mind as you shop for a laptop case or bag, most important of all is how well it would protect your laptop.

How to buy notebook computers.
In some consumer's mind, always feeling notebook and desktop computers have same pursuit of high-profile, high-performance. Actually, this is a comprehensive misunderstanding: For most individuals, the notebook is merely a provision giving the tools towards users in their each day work, study, convenience, and occasionally examine entertainment. Such a require, the current mainstream configuration ample to cope with these individuals completely, totally do not need to the pursuit of top-configured high-end models. Or some users desire a better toward the notebook that it really is the same as the advertisement says, you can usually move it audio-visual activity, sony vgp-bps2c battery and provide a good gaming performance. Well, I have no choice but to break your dreams, because it basically is not very realistic. Because of mobility and performance itself is an extremely contradictory, and this is a lot like we usually call "double-edged blade. " Good mobility portable computer, usually those 12-inch monitor or smaller products, such products are actually very good regarding mobility, but the internal configuration from the low and undoubtedly affected their performance. Ask thin models on the market, among them, several may be a discrete graphics? And in order for you good performance, a formidable "core" is indispensable, we are going to probably get some insight on the news, those who have a horror performance notebook, its weight can also be very "terrorist", and in addition to the battery endurance capability. Therefore, users should not blindly pursue the ultra-thin mobile computing, if you really will need the portability of notebook computers, please slightly reduce your performance requirements, so choose, will have a ton easier, there will be choices. The author's view is that buying a notebook and also should we demand preference, based on their actual use to select the appropriate models. I favor this user, during the day to work, go home during the night time, after the Internet, consider the news, now available the popular Centrino Celeron will meet needs; As for the graphics card, as long as don't run large-scale 3D online games, the current 855GM chipset's bundled graphics would suffice. In terms of portability, the writer I am also a day that has a beloved books from the business and families who are charged when using the additional weight of 3. 3kg, but as long as not really a whole No, I isn't tall body was capable to bear:)Beware Li Gui, for you to distinguish between true and also falseBy "ghosts, " refers to "Li Gui. " Parallel and also licensed as exists somewhere between the relatively large value difference, so buy some foreign brands, some posing while licensed dealers Take the actual parallel, and then make the value differential, which is not very line with the user especially careful to take advantage of the end of the marketing season, many businesses get licensed to carry out parallel posing as extremely low-cost promotions, consumers frequently attracted by its price and easily fooled. With IBM T-series notebooks as an example, a price around 17, 500 yuan in your mainstream, with the parallel configuration price is only 13, 000 yuan, and even lower, it was that massive price difference to induce dealers selling, "Lee ghosts. "Although the parallel with the mainstream concerning quality there is almost no difference, but there is usually a difference between warranty and after-sales service, which is particularly important for mobile computing, and think back using a million on the order of computer, a careless damage, and maintenance costs of as long as a few thousand money, you let me possibly be repaired or not remedied? Such as IBM as well as HP were in 2004 introduced a new warranty policy, toshiba pa3395u-1brs battery got clear that no pairs of parallel notebook extended warranty, allowing the machine continues to be IWS will also shed the umbrella, consumers have to be careful ah. In simple fact, in order to distinguish between "Li Gui" plus "Li Kui", there are still a way. First, look at the fuselage and to identify the specific model for the box, each naming a brand on the model are all this rules, if the buyers never understand, it should ask associates asked clearly to IBM laptop such as: "2WU", " 1WA ", " 8YH "these specific models not only explain the configuration, and note is which country or region really should be sold, U - regarding the United States; A - regarding Australia; H, on part of Hong Kong. If it's sold in China, this licensed IBM laptop, its specific model really should be the last letter "C" -- China. And this tag if you need to fake the difficulty will be relatively high, so so long as the sights of the actual model, the basic idea as the primary goal of can do. There is a move is a primary dial service hotline dealer: It is now an international brand notebooks in the uk has 800 free calling through this phone, you will discover out status of your notebook after-sales service, making sure that parallel notebook immediately Jianguang Si. Understand the gifts, care taking a degree ofGenerally determined following the purchase of certain versions of notebook, we should start with the dealer to start out actual manner Kanjia, and this time numerous JS tended to move outside the chess gifts. Large notebook bag, optical mouse, tiny camera or U drive, and sometimes is not the same as a single delivery, but a complete range of delivery, so that you feel as if accounted regarding much cheaper. The more that time, the more we ought to calm down and to not be distributors of this "extras" offensive confused. It has an old saying called "eventually exceeded, " gateway s62044l battery everything is not losing money to undertake business, so these gifts are certainly not in vain. If that happens, at least that there may exist the examples below three conditions: first, the buying price of this laptop still can easily "under the knife" (bargain) space, or if you find a greater sweetness dealer hidden; second, the New Year promotions often consumers might be presented when the second paragraph of laptop power packs or valuable gift, the value of these gifts is a few hundred or your thousand dollars, dealers by design deceive, to another presents Gift ways uplift laptop computer prices; Third, some thin and light notebook is used for external CD-ROM, CD-ROM will be within the offer price, which is surely an external drive prices are in thousand dollars more, if JS is available gift means a "perpetrating the fraud", it had additional losses than gains.

Artist Day at work?!?
I had to miss artist night on Tuesday this week because of various things going on in my life. I'm actually considering putting it on hold for the month of November because there is so much going on. I really enjoy it though, and it does give me a break from my normal routine. I also have some fun artist activities planned. For example, the 8-bit Mike project is coming up, and I am very excited for that.
This week's activity was a little unusual because it was related to work. You see, I used to really enjoy programming and I would stay up late at night to work on various projects. I haven't been able to do that very much lately. I have a lot of interruptions at work and I find that I can't handle the context switches very well. I've found it does take me about half an hour to really get back to something I was working on after an interruption. I would say I get interrupted at least every half hour when I'm at work. Obviously, there is a productivity issue there.
The other interesting thing that's been happening lately is that my eyes get really tired. I think it's from using the 30" cinema display I have at work. But I've found I can't look at computer screens very much after going home after work.
So for artist day this week I did something that should be normal but has not been typical for me in the last few months. On Saturday, I put my headphones on, closed my email and IM programs, and just did some of the programming that I needed to do for work.
I was surprised how much I could get done without all the distractions. It was actually really fun too. It helped me remember what I really like about programming and why I majored in computer science.
There are some artistic aspects to developing software. There is art behind the code itself that is difficult to describe to someone who doesn't program. However, when you see well-written code it can be refreshing - like looking at a piece of art. Also, when you finally run your program and everything works like it should there is a great feeling like you've created something and it is good. I think developing can be beautiful. My employees would attest to this - my favorite question to ask them when they tell me they've completed their projects is "Is it pretty?". I love it when it is.

Google Fail
Let me start by saying I really like and respect Google as a company. I use Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Voice, and (of course) blogger. I also recently activated my Android phone. Once in a while, the services won't be available for one reason or another, but for the most part, all of these services work pretty well.
However, I've run into two really big frustrations lately. The first was with Google Chrome. I still use Firefox as my main browser. There are some annoyances with it, like when it decides to use all of my CPU for no apparent reason. But it works pretty well for me and I like all the development tools it has. I thought I'd give Chrome a try because I like other Google products and wanted to have the automatic bookmark syncing.
I decided quickly that I couldn't use it. Aside from the fact that there are fewer plugins for it, there was one particular issue that drove me crazy - when you use the address bar, you can't type a partial URL and have it find the full link you're looking for. For example, at work, the main site I develop on is http://marriottschool.byu.edu. I don't want to have to type that in every time I visit a page, so I'll just type 'login' or whatever. Firefox finds the login page from my history and gives it to me as an option in the drop-down menu. Chrome does not. I think it's silly for a search company not to be able to do this. I'm even more bothered by the fact that there has been a trouble ticket open for this issue for over a year. It looks like the issue is finally being resolved, but that is a little ridiculous to me.
Problem #2 came with my Android phone. I thought I'd use the Google Voice application on it and I installed the latest version. I noticed that there were some things weird with it - sometimes it would take hours for it to notice new text messages. Even worse, when I did get texts or voicemail, it would take a very long time to open the application and view the text - sometimes 30 or more seconds. Then when I'd start typing a response, the phone would slow down to a crawl and type maybe a character every other second. Again, I noticed that there were other people who had opened a thread on the issue. And again, no fix after weeks. It's horrible. I had to downgrade to the previous release (which works great).
So I'm starting to question my faith in Google. Do they have any quality checking at all? I've heard they hire some pretty smart people. Maybe they only care about their code and creating new applications and don't care about feedback from their users. Maybe they should leave their applications in Beta forever like they used to.
