MERRITTVILLE: POSTER CONTEST SET FOR BALL HOCKEY INTERNATIONAL NIGHT AT MERRITTVILLE – MINOR SPORT PLAYERS FREE

Thorold, Ontario (May 24) Merrittville Speedway is set to welcome Ball Hockey International Saturday June 2nd for an action-packed DIRT Weekly Racing Series program and a special Poster Contest for Kids.

Younger Race Fans will be able to pick up their Contest Forms Saturday May 26th during the K&K Insurance Event.

“It’s a great thing for the kids,” relates (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “they can take them home and work on them all week … do them up like their favorite drivers or do their own creations.”

Although the month of May has one event left in the K&K Insurance May 26th presentation of the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Triple Crown Series and regular events for the four other divisions – race fans have been treated to some spectacular racing in the early season.

Yet to visit victory Lane in 2007 is former Hoosier Stock Champion Mike Dooley who would love to put his Ball Hockey International 310c in Victory Lane on June 2nd if not before. In the three events to date – there have been 3 different winners – Rob Murray, Cody McPherson and Jeff Dayman.

In a short seven seasons in the division, Dooley’s 310c entry has always been a fan favorite with its M&M’s inspired paint schemes and 2007’s is no exception.

Ball Hockey International is one of many sponsors that over the years have helped the St. Catharines driver earn a Hoosier Stock Point Championship in 2004 and two years ago - the inaugural Duel on the Dirt Title in leading Team Merrittville to victory over the Brighton Speedway Pro Stocks.

The Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lites also have 3 events in the books to date this season but only one driver has made it to Victory Lane – Paul Klager.

One driver that would like to make his first ever trip to the Winner’s Circle is Kory Howe with his Ball Hockey International # 33.

From a Kart Racing career that began at 10 years of age to his current status as a veteran in the Open Wheel Lites, BHI has also supported much of the racing career as well of Kory Howe.

In the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modified Division – 3 drivers as well have visited the Winner’s Circle with Scott Wood having the early season edge in winning 2 features while Rick Richner and Larry Lampman have also won once each.

Likewise the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders have a trio of events with James Small taking 2 while Aaron Wiley has the other marker.

In 4 Original Pizza Logs Sportsmen Feature Events however – there have been 4 different winners to date with Mike Bowman, Chad Chevalier, Rob Knapp and Darren Zumpe all taking a Checkered Flag.

With so much excitement in the very early part of the season – what will the month of June and the rest of the season bring for Merrittville Speedway Race Fans?

It will all start with the BI International Night Saturday June 2nd when all Minor Sports Players will be admitted free in Team Jerseys.

“In the past it has only been open to BHI players,” adds Bicknell, “but there are so many other active kids out there … we thought that everyone should be proud of their involvement in minor sports.”

Both BHI St. Catharines, (located on the Welland Canal Parkway) and Welland locations will soon be taking registrations for the Summer and Fall sessions for individuals or teams. BHI offers Outdoor Ball Hockey Fun for male and female participants from ages 4 and up.

Registration fees are very affordable for all age groups and equipment costs and requirements are minimal.

Between the two locations more than 6,000 individuals take part – divided between more than 170 teams in league play.

For further information call the St. Catharines location at 905-682-2835 or in Welland at 905-734-1040 or visit with them at www.ballhockeyinternational.com and at Merrittville Speedway June 2nd.

All divisions of the Weekly Racing Series will be in action – Original Pizza Logs Sportsmen, Lucas Oil Open Wheel Lites, Hoosier Stocks and Turn Four Collision 4 Cylinders in addition to the L. St. Amand Enterprises 358 Modifieds.

Gates will open at 5:30 with Showtime set for 7:15.
