Karting: Cactus Motors reign supreme at KDKC Race #3

FRASERVILLE, ON - The Kawartha Durham Kart Club held their third race of the season on May 30th under beautiful sunny skies and the power of a Cactus Motors built engine helped Patrick Pleasance take the win in Honda Senior. Powerful all day, it was in the final that Pleasance showed his racing prowess as he crossed the line just ahead of Dennis Woods with AJ Emms taking third. “My engine is a monster,” proclaimed Pleasance afterwards.

Another Cactus Motors win came from Carl “Fingers” Thompson in Honda Masters while second place wouldn’t be decided until the last few corners of the race with veteran racer Bruce Panes and Jeff Church in second and third.

In Novice, Dawson Williams sprinted to the finish line only inches in front of Mason Brown and Marlie Owen, daughter of OSCAAR driver John Owen. “The novices get faster every race as their confidence builds. This is also an indication of the hard work from their parents” Paul Evans, President KDKC. Hector Wakfer in fourth keeps getting faster and local favorite Basil Pappas rounded out the top 5.

Junior Honda was the race of the day. Competitive racing experience in the family genes can be credited with the excitement as Junior Lite racer Bailey Brown crossed the stripe just ahead of Andre “The Firecracker” Fiorini and Russell Farrell. Throw in the Junior Heavy class winner of Jaike Haywood, son of Kawartha Speedway Thunder Car racer Dave Haywood, with Cameron “Mad Dog” Gardiner in second and the race kept all spectators on the edge of their seats.

The next event for the Kawartha Durham Kart Club will be on Friday, June 4th as Kawartha Speedway opens its stock car track for their first night of the season. The kart club will participate in the parade lap and will be on hand to speak with fans about getting started in kart racing at KDS. On tap will be the OSCAAR Super Late Model cars as well as weekly regular classes, Mini-Stock, Thunder Cars and Late Models.
