VAN ES SCRAMBLES TO THIRTEEN PLACE FINISH AT PETERBOROUGH

Smithville Driver Tied For 13th Place in Super Series Standings

Prepared for VanEs Racing by Ken Spencer

Ron Van Es battled his way to a solid 13th-place finish in his Star Van Systems/All Cover Systems Monte Carlo in Super Series action at Peterborough Speedway on Sunday afternoon and in so doing moved into to a 13th-place tie in the standings with just 3 races left in the 2005 season.

The event featured 6 caution flags for a total of 62 laps as drivers in the 23-car field battled both themselves and their competitors on the tight one-third oval.

Ron had a slow qualifying speed and started the 200-lap race in 16th spot. He managed to stay on the lead laps through the early going as the car’s handling began to come around but went down a lap late in the going as tire wear and the side-by-side racing of lapped cars became an issue.

“We appear to have solved most of our handling issues,” Ron confided following the race. ”With a little more tweaking, we should be capable of still better runs over the remainder of the season.”

The Smithville driver has come a long way since entering Canadian stock car racing’s premier series last year and is looking forward to the final events on the schedule where he hopes to move even closer to the top ten in the final points’ standings.

His next appearance will be in the 300-lap Labour Day weekend race at London’s Delaware Speedway on September 3-4.

Windsor’s Ron Beauchamp captured Sunday’s race outdistancing Kerry Micks at the checkered flag.

The driver of the MOPAR-sponsored Dodge had taken the lead from Micks when the Power Water Ford driver pitted on lap 114. Wyoming, Ontario’s Dave Whitlock finished third followed by DJ Kennington of St. Thomas and Scott Steckley of Milverton.
