Whitlock on podium at Peterborough Speedway

By Don Brooks, Whitlock Motosports

Peterborough, ON August 21 2005: Teams were already qualified prior to the unexpected overnight delay due to the rained out Logel’s Auto Parts 200 on Saturday night. But after another rain delay on Sunday, the skies cleared and Dave Whitlock brought his Avenue Motor Works / NMT Dodge Charger home in third for his second podium of the year.

Fellow Dodge driver Ron Beauchamp Jr. (Mopar Dodge #60) won his second of the year, while Kerry Micks (Power Water Ford #02) started from the pole, broke the track record in qualifying and finished second. Whitlock’s #39 Dodge had recorded fastest times during practice but his qualifying run was only good enough for 7th fastest.

“You never know how this Peterborough race will go in terms of cautions” said Whitlock. “Our strategy was to go all the way without stopping, which means setting up for long green flag sessions. So in one lap of time trials, I couldn’t get the tires warm enough to get a super fast lap. During the race we were good though, making the right moves when the timing was right. Our Charger was good and we were close tonight but not quite as good as Ronnie for sure.”

Beauchamp also chose to go the distance without pitting, and inherited the lead at lap 114 when Micks pitted. Team mate Mark Dilley had problems with his #9 Dodge Power Water Charger, finishing 21st while points leader Don Thomson Jr. had a 6th place finish.
