CANADIAN SPRINT CAR NATIONALS SET TO TAKE THE GREEN FLAG

By Ken Pelkie, Event Coordinator, Canadian Sprint Car Nationals

Final preparations are taking place for the inaugural running of the “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals”. Scheduled to go at Ohsweken Speedway on Saturday, September 17, the 30 lap feature event presented by “Eldorado Logistics” guarantees the winner $5,000. The winner could take home over $6,500 in cash and contingency awards of the posted prize package totaling over $48,000.

The event which will be run under a common set of rules crafted at the Northeastern 360 Forum last November and administered by Ohsweken Speedway, gets underway on Friday night, September 16 when three practice sessions will be available for registered entries that are not competing in the SOS Invitational. Also on the schedule Friday will be the “Village Pizza – Ohsweken Shootout” for Canadian Nationals registered cars. Three cars each from SOS (Styres; West; Riegling); ESS (Kaszubinski; Bergeron; Karklin); PSG (Kyle Wilson; Hebing; Suprick); and SOD (Patrick; Mulheim; Broughman) will line up at intermission for a 10 lap head to head battle. The winner will walk away with $500. All cars qualified from an earlier event at Ohsweken this season that was sanctioned by the individual participating series.

Then on Saturday, time trials will be used to determine the fastest forty eight of the more than seventy expected entries. They will then progress through a series of heat races, Dashes, “C” , and “B” Main to determine the twenty four car “A” Main field that will determine the first “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” champion. Non-qualifier race(s) will be run for the remainder of the field to determine the final four cars that will tag on to the back of the heat races.

Saturday will see Pit Gates open at 8:00 AM while the spectator area after being left open all night will be emptied and closed at 11:00 AM for a 12:00 Noon opening. Drivers meeting will begin at 4:00 PM with hot laps and time trials to follow immediately. Racing is scheduled for 7:45 PM.

Advanced tickets for the “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” will be available Friday night, September 16th at the Pit Gate entrance of the speedway only from 4:00 till race time at 7:45 PM.

Cost is $25 Canadian ($20 U.S.) for adults with children 6 through 12 at $5.00. Under 6 will be free. “No reserved seats will be available for this year’s race” stated owner Glenn Styres. “If the event is supported and as successful as we think, we will assess all areas and adjust for any future races similar to this”.
