OPTIMISM AND DETERMINATION FIRE THE #11 TEAM: Outstanding Year So Far For Sophomore Driver and Crew

Prepared for Van Es Racing by Ken Spencer

September 14, 2005 For some CASCAR Super Series teams it’s been a long and tiring season since the season began back in May, especially for those whose year has been filled with disappointments, bad luck and/or mediocre results.

For the Star Van Systems/ All Covers Portable Systems team #11, led by sophomore driver Ron Van Es, his Crew Chief Alex Nagy and Car Chief Ken Nichols, it’s been a season filled with a few surprises, satisfaction and yes, even a few disappointments. But two key factors –optimism and determination- have kept them competitive throughout the 11 events/13-races run todate.

Heading to the final race of the season at Kawartha Speedway this weekend for “The Dodge Dealers of Ontario –Ram Tough 250” the team is hoping they can better their impressive 11th-place performance of last Saturday and climb another spot in the standings.

They currently sit 13th in the points race and are just 36 behind Milverton’s Scott Steckly for 12th.

“I don’t know if we can catch Scott. He would have to have some pretty bad luck and I think he got that out of the way at Cayuga,” Ron responded when questioned on his chances. “Our strategy probably won’t change. We’ll try to stay on the lead lap, keep out of trouble and shoot for a top ten. We didn’t have a very good run at Kawartha last year”, he added, “but we’ve got some ideas on how to fix that.”

“As for sponsorship of this event, it sounds like Marshall’s Truck and Trailer Repairs will be back for the final race but I don’t know at this time about the Innsville Bar and Grille. Marshall’s were pretty impressed with the coverage (not to forget the results) we gave them.” Both area businesses co-sponsored the team at Cayuga –an arrangement originally set for one race only.

Regardless of the results they have on Sunday, Ron and his teammates have good reason to celebrate once the season is over. Even at twelfth-place in the national standings, that’s a pretty good performance for a driver and team who came into Super Series competition just last season.

Ron would like to pass on his special thanks to his family, sponsors and terrific crewmembers who were responsible for the successful season
